What is Therapeutic Horsemanship?
Therapeutic Horsemanship is improving the life of an individuals mind and body using horses as a tool. Our sessions include grooming, saddling, riding and learning all about horses. Session activities vary wildly depending on the abilities of our riders.
When and how much are sessions?
Sessions are during the days on weekdays and weekends, as scheduled by the THH Program Director. Half hour sessions are $25, and hour sessions are $40. All sessions will include riding.
What can the rider expect?
The rider must wear long pants, usually jeans, and covered shoes. Boots are best, but athletic shoes are acceptable. The rider must be quiet and calm around the horses, not stand behind them, and treat them with respect. The rider should wear sunscreen and have a cold drink for after the session.
Is this program certified?
All activities are under the supervision of a Therapeutic Riding Instructor certified by the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA). For more information about NARHA, please go to their website, www.narha.org.
What if we can't make it?
Our schedule at THH is very busy, so if you can't make it, please let us know as soon as possible by calling 259-7107 or 342-9036 or email dana@thhwaimanalo.org . If you cancel within 24 hours of your session, you will be asked to pay for it. Sick riders or emergencies need not pay. If you skip a session without notice, your session time may be given to somebody on the waiting list.
Polo field rules
Please enter only through the Makapu'u gate with the THH signs on it. The middle entrance to the polo field is on a different property. Please do not walk on the polo field. Please do not approach any horses that do not belong to THH. The polo club is very generous in letting our program be here, so we try to respect their property! Thanks for your cooperation!!
Horses' Bios
Our horses come from many different backgrounds. One thing they all have in common is a very gentle nature and a desire to take care of their riders. They vary in age from nine years old and up. Most of them have lived long past their life expectancy and requre special care to keep them healthy and happy. Come meet our horses!

Adopt-a-Horse
Most of our horses have special needs too! Some of them have health problems that prevent them from doing regular work, so they come to us to help us with our riders. Obviously, they are expensive to keep in good health. If you would like to help support our incredible horses, please consider Adopting one of our excellent animals. Your name will appear in the Horse Bio section as the Sponsor of the horse. Mahalo for your support!!
